From circa 1965 out of Cleveland comes the only release by Jackie Peterson on the local WARWICK label. Buckeye Beat has just a little more info on this artist.

From 1965 comes a cool girl group from the north shore. Not much info on this rare one but it has been included on the Girls In The Garage compilation series.

THE GRASSHOPPERS —- CLEVELAND

From 1965 comes a mover by The Grasshoppers. This is their first release and was originally put out on the SUNSHINE label. The tune is based on the earlier hit by The Royal Teens “Short Shorts”. It got enough airplay that WARNER BROS. picked it up. An interesting note is that Benjamin Orr was a member of the band. He later became famous in the ’80s group The Cars.

ANDY LAUREN —- CLEVELAND

Here’s a scratchy copy of a teen sound 45rpm by Andy Lauren with Jamie and the Domains.  Circa 1965. A little confusion here as a web search states the ALPINE label is based in Akron…but a Cleveland address is clearly seen on the label. The reference to Goodyear publishing does point to Akron.  Hmmmm????

Here’s an ultra rare rocker out of the 50’s from Cleveland. I haven’t got much info on this gem but both sides hit it really hard.

On another north coast note, I just learned of a new book highlighting Cleveland’s famous Tommy Edwards and a lot of the early stars he had contact with as a DJ at WERE.  The book is titled: “1950’s Radio in Color : The Lost Photographs of Deejay Tommy Edwards” and is written by Christopher Kennedy.

Fans of this site, early music or Cleveland may want to check it out.

Here’s a cool northern soul tune out of Ohio’s north coast! Google & Buckeye Beat sheds some light on today’s post if you’re curious.

Dave C and the Sharptones - Diane

——————————————————————————————————————————-

It gives me great sadness to report that I have just learned of Dave C (Cox) passing away. Though I never had the privilege in seeing him perform, from what I read….he was such a GREAT performer. I am thankful to have the above recording and the ability to share it so others can hear what a gem it is. RIP Dave. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Here’s a nice write up on him:

DRAGON WYCK — CLEVELAND

dragon-wyck_clev.jpg

I’ve just heard of the recent passing of Bill Pettijohn who was in Dragon Wyck. The band was around from the late ’60s to mid-70’s. I remember seeing him several times in the ’80s while he fronted a Doors tribute band called Moonlight Drive. Always a good show as I recall. Here’s a 45rpm put out on the PECKAR label.
